1. To avoid electrostatic problems, maintain the relative humidity around machines at a minimum of 50%, and use equipment to remove electrostatic charges.
2. YUPO FGS95 is the most suitable grade for machine folding.
3. For thick products (150 μm or more), it is recommended to using scoring.
4. Run the final fold parallel with the YUPO grain.
5. Be aware of the following for folding machines and calibrations:
Use the highest precision machines possible.
Use rubber-steel combination rollers.
It is critical to use non-abrasive rollers.
Adjust the roll pressure to the maximum setting.
Set the feeder at a precise right angle to the rolls.
6. Use equipment for ejecting paper in the delivery area. Work is difficult with belt systems.
7. We recommend 8-page folds. When performing 16-page folds, prior testing is recommended. (YUPO up to 130 microns is suitable for folding.)
8. Airtight pouch-type folds (e.g., 32-page folds) are difficult using YUPO.
9. YUPO printing sheets are sprayed with a relatively large amount of set-off prevention powder. It may be necessary to remove the powder in advance, so check with the printing department or printing company.
10. After the paper has been discharged at delivery, there will be a tendency for YUPO products to unfold, but the folds will remain if pressure is applied for several hours using rubber bands, string or applying weight.
11. ALPHAYUPO can splits easily, so do not fold it at right-angles to the YUPO grain. Fold after carrying out scoring by heat in the direction of the YUPO grain beforehand.
scoring
1. When folding thick grades of YUPO, it is effective to fold by hand after carrying out scoring.
2. Scoring machines that apply heat and pressure at a higher rate than normal are the most effective.
3. It is effective to score lines with a pressure higher than the normal pressure on paperboard.
