Food Safety
Food Safety
(1) YUPO® and ALPHAYUPO® QJJ grade conform with the containers and packaging for foods (alcohol, fats and other general foods), excluding acidic foods with a pH of 5 and below, as described in the Japanese Ministry of Health and Welfare Announcement No. 370 (1959).
Warnings
The safety of applications for foods has not been verified for YUPO® processed goods or ALPHAYUPO®, so avoid uses in which they come into direct contact with food.

(2) However, the manufacturing process we use does not conform to HACCP or the food safety standards specified in the Japanese food safety law, so when using YUPO® for food containers and packaging, implement safety measures in the printing and processing stages.
Warnings
Please be aware that none of the YUPO® grades can be used as "apparatuses" specified in the Japanese food safety law.

* "Containers and packaging" refers to items containing food or used to wrap food, in which food is transferred to the container or packaging as is (Article 4-5 of the Japanese food safety law).
* "Apparatuses" refers to items used for drink and food utensils, cooking apparatuses and removing food, as well as items used in manufacturing, processing, preparing, storing, transporting, displaying, receiving or ingesting food, and items that come into direct contact with food (Article 4-4 of the Japanese food safety law).
Odors
(1) YUPO® is a synthetic paper with virtually no odor.
(2) YUPO® materials that have undergone oil-base offset printing using ink for YUPO® have a pungent odor, which is the odor of the ink.
(3) For applications in which odor would become an issue, laminate the printing surface with PP or PET.
Bitterness
(1) YUPO® and ALPHAYUPO® may have a bitter taste when licked depending on the person. This is the bitterness of the agents used in treating the surface of YUPO®, but as mentioned above, it is safe for the human body.
(2) To prevent the effects of the bitterness on food packaging, etc., laminate YUPO® with a film.

Warnings
YUPO® is not a food, so it must not be eaten or licked under any circumstances.
