Dot gain
Normally, YUPO® does not absorb ink. Accordingly, although it also depends on printing press conditions, YUPO® has approximately 10% more dot gain compared to coated sheets.
Note that SUPERYUPO® FRB, FRR, and ULTRAYUPO® FEB are grades with improved dot gain.

Countermeasures
  • Be sure there is no excessive build up of ink. This worsens dot gain.
  • Be sure to carry out color proofing using the actual sheets and printing press.
  • Dot gain can be corrected by approximately 10% at the film stage or, in the case of positive plates, the exposure time can be increased when making the plates.
  • For CTP systems, be sure to make corrections using a tone curve during prepress.
